The "D"
Two rats, an order of flies, and a black and white shake.

Yum.

I still miss that place after all of these years. I went to one of the last remaining "D"s -- in Clark off the Garden State -- a few years ago, but it wasn't the same. No curb service, no Joe, no Doris. The rats did have a familiar taste to them, however.

Yeah, and it took me all of college to burn off the extra greasy lbs. I put on at the "D."

Here's the D in Linden, which is still standing. I intensified the colors in photo to give it that Edward Hopper look. Kinda. Image

Yep, looks like I'm off to Linden.

I remember the eulogy James Harte wrote when the D was shut down. Does anyone know if James is coming to the reunion? He was in my homeroom. Raining like hell here in Point Roberts WA right now, have the wood stove cranked up and a pot of tea on the stove. I love living here in the rain forest of the Pacific NW, very quiet, you can hear a pin drop- but we're so close to downtown Vancouver BC. I can get into the "Big Soak" in just a half hour by mass transportation from the neighboring Canadian town of Tsawwassen. Do any of you ever go skiing at Whistler? Thats just up the Sea to Sky Highway from here, a short drive by western standards. People out here think differently about distances than back east. Have friends in Alberta who think nothing of driving all day to come here just to see the ocean, they have a meal, then drive all the way back! My main memory of the "D" was the time I damn near choked on a rat and someone had to do the Heimlich manuever on me to keep me from croaking!
